Social Media Church Invite — Tips and Tools

August 2, 2020
August 2, 2020
Inviting people to church has changed over the years. Technology, such as social media and websites, offer big advantages to churches. For instance, instead of only having personal invites and flyers, you can now more easily get your church seen online. Increasing your church visibility online will help your congregation to disciple and share the gospel. We wanted to share some tips and tools you can use to help share your church invites and messages. Social Media Like it or not social media is here to stay and a large percent of Americans use it frequently. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Pinterest, Tik Tok, Snapchat, and LinkedIn are all popular and widely-used social platforms. Each outlet has varying and unique demographics of users.  The good news is you can extend your church’s reach with just a few posts a week on the platforms that best fit your audience (if not all).

Here are a few ways you can use Social Media to invite people to your church:

Create Facebook events:

You can invite your congregation to events and ask them to invite friends and family through Facebook Events connected to your pages. Facebook events are powerful.  For example, events can send notifications as reminders automatically so you don’t have to worry about follow-up and calling or emailing. It’s an easy and effective form of inviting new people. (Of course there are also paid elements you can use too but that’s for another blog entry, keep an eye out for that coming soon.)

Instagram stories and posts:

With the appropriate hashtags and even video or animation, you can increase reach for your church through posts and stories. Additionally, they stay forever, like Facebook posts, but stories only appear for 24 hours.

People scrolling through Instagram and Facebook are using hashtags more than ever. People use hashtags to connect ideas.  You can use hashtags to help people more quickly find you in a sea of ideas and posts.

YouTube

YouTube is wildly popular on mobile and is a great place to invite people to your church. You can easily add this message to the end of all your livestream and recorded sermons. We suggest ensuring you promote and link your YouTube (and all your social channels) to your website and other social platforms. For example a youtube video on facebook lets your audience know you can be found on YouTube and subscribe to your channel to get instant updates.

LinkedIn:

With the new way LinkedIn Groups are working they could be a place to connect your teams, your congregation and to inspire or promote yourselves theologically.

On LinkedIn, you can invite connections and share resources, links, and other information. For the professionals at your church this may be a way to help spread the word by creating a group and keeping your congregation active and asking them to connect with their connections.

Social media (though it has its dark sides that even we can’t deny) can have big positive impacts on spreading the gospel and sharing a Church’s presence.

Did you know many families search Facebook for events near them. They did before COVID19 and they will again. The major demographic information on the social media platforms can be found here.

It can be hard to get started and even harder to know where to start and create a social media strategy to increase the appropriate audience for your pages. We can help you create a strategy that works for you. We’ll help to narrow down where you should be as well as how your social strategy could help you expand your church members. You can always schedule a free strategy session with us any time if you have questions. We hope this helps!
